Widowed and Young (WAY)

Just want to put this out there for anyone who has been widowed before the age of 51 or maybe you know someone who has. They may not be aware of the charity Widowed and Young (WAY).

https://www.widowedandyoung.org.uk/

If you know someone who has been widowed at a young age, please pass on the details of the group to them, even privately or discreetly if you have to.

But please let them know the group exists! It doesn’t matter about their background or how they became widowed. Whether it was medically related or an accident, e.t.c. The point is, it’s bringing everyday people who are suffering together, to help them understand the pain they are going through.

It’s still very early days for me but the charity has already been helping me understand why my mind and body are being so erratic just now and will, unfortunately, continue to do so. Simply by reading everyone else’s stories, chatting with other members. It’s helping me understand why I feel the way I do and struggle to do certain basic tasks that were previously 2nd nature to me.

WAY have their own discussion forums, 24/7 helplines and also private Facebook groups where people can safely open up about what they are going through. Lots of private subgroups, more dedicated to certain areas, for example, those with or without children + several more. I simply can’t describe how it feels both mentally and physically to go through something like this. It’s not what you expect to be grief from losing someone. The only way for someone to understand is to have unfortunately gone through a similar loss themselves.

Which is why WAY works so well. It’s members have all gone through the same loss in their life. Every member of WAY understands, they “Get it”!

Privacy is the utmost and none of the stories or discussion topics are public. It is a safe haven to release your frustrations, get your questions answered, and most importantly feel comfortable about how strange and worrying everything feels.

Widowed & Young (WAY)

It’s such a shame with all the lockdown nonsense this year that people aren’t able to meet up in person, so it’s all mostly online just now, but it still helps! The sooner these lockdown restrictions are lifted the better for everyone’s mental wellbeing!

Things feel so unnatural and indescribable, yet somehow that’s normal !?!, and being able to share that with people who truly understand is invaluable. You don’t ever get over it! You just try your best to live with your new life going forward, with your loved one still being a part of you, yet no longer physically by your side.

As I said at the top, if you or you know someone who has been widowed at a young age, please pass on the details of WAY to them. No matter whether their loss was recent or a few years ago. Some members don’t find WAY until a year or more later and they all say they wish they found it sooner on their journey! The support is there by way of real people going through the same horrific change in their life!

Added New Content!

Just added a few new pages to the garage section of the website.

Still need to go through the text and perhaps make them a bit more reader friendly. They were extracted from some forum posts I made years ago about the wee Scooby projects I was working at that time.

Anyhoo some of the more fun / interesting ones:

Plottering

Been plotting again..Have been wanting to make some kick plates for the XV for ages.

Finally got round to bringing the plotter and leftover vinyl down from the loft.

Ok.. I admit it, it was a hot day and i went up there for a fan. Spotted the plotter in the corner and got carried away.

New Photo Album!

Taken a while but finally decided on a photo album system I’m happy with. Sadly it doesn’t fully integrate with wordpress at the moment but that may be a good thing! Just means the photo album section is free from all the back end code and styling template of wordpress that can slow things down. Making the photo album very responsive.

… more albums to be added once I take time to go through photos of some of the more recent road trips that never made it online.

UK Investing in Hydrogen Production

Now were talking!.. Government investing into hydrogen production!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-51546611

Now if they can just step away from the fad of all electric cars will solve all our problems and focus on hydrogen/electric hybrids we might be getting somewhere!

I’m not against all electric cars. But right now they seem more of a fashion accessory for people. Great for town and city cars, proven by electric milk floats from decades ago.
. o O (You see! electric cars are in fact old fashioned!)

Dual Fuel Hybrids are the future. I want to see strong investment in hydrogen fuel cell technology, Waste from hydrogen cell? water. Why not recycle that water and use it to keep your washer fluid filled up? or use it as a sophisticated way to keep your car clean from salt by spraying the excess under the car? I’m sure theirs endless uses for the byproduct.

It’s not just cars. Hydrogen has many uses across many industries!

The Age of A.I. on YouTube

Slowly working my way through “The age of AI” YouTube series.
Just watched episode 2 which is quite a powerful one. The fact that Tony Stark (Sorry, Robert Downey Jr.) Narrates this show isn’t creepy at all. In fact it’s very fitting.

By far one of the best tech documentaries I’ve seen in a long time.

As a Computer Scientist I’m really interested in seeing technology being used to help us in everyday life. The idea of taking data and applying algorithms to create software systems and machine learning to help humanity is what I enjoy.

Forget the scaremongering of media and Hollywood about computers taking over the world. This series takes us the real use of technology to help us, rather than rule us.

Real technology is not about getting more likes or subscriptions on social media Or even how many cameras you can fit on a mobile phone.
This series relates to my view of technology in that it’s not for showing off, but rather it’s for helping us get through everyday lives that little bit easier.. Which is my the majority of tech in my home is hidden away yet accessible at anytime, anywhere. It’s here, not to take over our lives, but rather it’s there to help us improve research, health and well being.

We hear so much about the big tech companies stealing and storing data. Those naughty tech companies! But these big companies are the ones leading or supporting some amazing research projects happening behind the scenes that the majority of people never see or hear of. These companies are in fact using technology to help improve our way of life. This is a side we rarely hear about. All we seem to hear about is the nasty data collectors.

I trust the technology. I just wish it was maybe a little more predictable and reliable at times 🙂 But it’s still light-years ahead of where it was 50, 25 or even 5 years ago!
