I’ve always been one for a challenge. Been waiting a while for snot in order to test the capabilities on the Subaru XV / Crosstrek on a challenging situation.
Take one private estate in the North of Scotland. A UK Spec Subaru XV Diesel. A set of Michelin Cross Climate Tyres, part worn, less than 3mm tread. And finally, snow & ice covered Hill.
I knew the car was capable of driving up the slope no problem, where other cars struggled and indeed failed in these conditions. Far too easy for the Subaru 🙂
But what about, stopping part way up and then starting off again? Could it possibly gain enough traction in order to pull it safely up the hill? Take a look at the video below and see the results.
Note: I know the video isn’t the best quality and background noise distorted due to the heater being on. But no modifications to the car. Just stopped part way up, let the hill control release so the car it started to roll back then pulled away in 1st gear with no fuss
